Fire Station No. 7 (Violet, LA) |
The Award of Merit was given to Fire Station No. 7, located in Violet LA. This station was built after FEMA determined that the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina made the previous station uninhabitable. This station has living and sleeping quarters for four firefighters and three apparatus bays.Seven new fire stations were required following the aftermath of the storm. Each station was designed to fit within the context of the community by establishing a specific architectural language for the fire department. Each station separately and as a series of buildings within the community is viewed as primary objects, seen as symbols of protection and ongoing recovery from Hurricane Katrina.
